Mr. LIU Mingkang took office as Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission in March 2003. He has also served as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People*s Bank of China since then.
Before heading the CBRC, Mr. LIU held various positions in both banking institutions and government agencies, including, among others, Chairman and President of Bank of China (BOC) (February 2000 每 March 2003), Chairman of China Everbright Group (July 1999 每 June 2000), Deputy Governor of the People*s Bank of China (March 1998 每 July 1999), Deputy Governor of China Development Bank (January 1994 每 March 1998), Deputy Governor of Fujian province and Secretary-in-general of Fujian provincial government (January 1993 每 January 1994).
Mr. LIU has been active in international groupings and academic institutions. He is the Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the CBRC, a member of the Peking University*s International Advisory Board, and a member of the Tsinghua University*s International Advisory Board. He is guest professor at many reputable universities. He is also a fellow of Hong Kong Institute of Bankers. He serves as a member of the Financial Stability Forum Chairman*s Advisory Council, and a director of the Board of International Center for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF), Bank Negara Malaysia.
He received the MBA degree and the honorary doctorate both from the City University of London.
He is married with two sons.
