Mr. CAI E＊sheng was appointed Vice Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission in December 2005.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. CAI served as President of the Supervisory Board of Key State-owned Financial Institutions (May 2001 每 December 2005), Assistant Governor of the People＊s Bank of China (PBC) and President of the PBC Shanghai Branch (February 2000 每 May 2001), Assistant Governor of the PBC (September 1998 每 February 2000), Director-General of the Banking Supervisory Department II of the PBC (July 1998 每 September 1998), Director-General of the Banking Department of the PBC (May 1994 每 July 1998), and Director-General of the Financial Administration Department of the PBC (January 1994 每 May 1994). In addition, he had also held various posts in many supervisory departments of the PBC from August 1982 to January 1994, including the Interest Rate and Deposit Administration Department, the Financial Institution Reform Department, the General Planning Department as well as the Human Resources Department.
Mr. CAI was born in 1951 in Hubei province. He graduated from Shanxi Institute of Finance and Economics in 1982, majoring in finance and economics.
